The MGB was produced for eighteen years, far longer than its designers envisaged. A number of changes were made to the car over those years for legislative or market appeal reasons. In 1965 the original pull out door handles were replaced by a push button mechanism and the fuel tank was enlarged to 12 gallons. Then in April 1967 a front anti-roll bar and the quieter Salisbury-type rear axle were fitted; both had been standard on the more expensive GT since it was announced in 1965.
