Although when the Stag was announced in June 1970 it appeared to ape it s saloon cousin, the Innsbruck Triumph 2000 MkII of 1969, its actually the other way round. Stylist Michelotti had drawn the Stag first and was then asked to heavily facelift the 2000 range using similar styling cues. Because of the saloons greater market importance this was rushed through, delaying the already troubled Stag programme.
